Entry by Rachel Krubeck:
Our science workshop was a blast at Jesse’s House! Under Mr. Jack Wood’s instruction, the girls at the shelter were able to explore polymers by making slime. They were also able to watch instant snow polymer expand by adding water and condense when salt was added to it. Then, they observed light with rainbow spectrum diffraction prism glasses. The girls were inquisitive, funny, and engaging. My favorite quote of the day was from a girl who originally said at the beginning of the lesson that she wasn’t really interested in science. But during the class she changed her mind and said, “I love science!” There was even a young girl that proclaimed her love for astronomy and had so many questions about the boundaries of space. Mr. Jack educated her about cosmology and I watched her curiosity ignite. She repeated the word cosmology over and over again trying to remember it and trying to say it correctly. The kids were all such a pleasure to hang out with. Seeing them wave good bye with smiling faces made everything worth it. We are especially thankful for Mr. Jack Wood taking time to prepare and teach such an awesome class for the residents. His patience and sense of humor made the class so enjoyable. What a blessing you are to Super Science Kids, Mr. Jack!!

AuthorMy name is Angelica Krubeck and I am 14 years old. I love science. It's one of my favorite things to do. When I was 8, one of my friends opened up to me. She shared how she grew up in a shelter and how hard every day was. After that conversation, I decided I wanted to help kids like her in some way. Science I love and kids I love, so put them together and it just makes sense. I knew that some kids out there don't get the chance to be creative with science, like how I do. I strongly believe that no kid should be without the education and enjoyment of science! Not only does it help them get away from their worries for a little while, but it also provides education to them. I hope to inspire kids to do great things, to succeed in science, and to develop a love for science despite the challenges they are facing in their life. Archives
